Watchout for the wild burros along this road.

The fun within Red Rock Canyon is hidden. The majority of the trails are behind the mountain. The main trail starts on either side and goes around and down behind the mountain. The key were there was "down". I ended up hiking out early, because the trail would dip down into a series of washes. It was the rainy season in Nevada at the time, and I didn't want to get stuck. Keep it in mind. The trail provides a decent challenge, and ther eare little side trails or rock scrabbles that you can tackle and then rejoin the main trail. I'd suggest spending the entire day here to do the trail from one side to the other. Doing what I did, going in part way and then coming back along the same section of the main trail wasn't all that interesting. Be sure someone can pick you up on the other side or take 2 cars.

It's not overseen by the National Park Services, but instead by the Bureau of Land Management which makes for some interesting reads at the visitor center.

Directions: 45mins outside of Las Vegas
