  Cork Oaks dot the Countryside

After spending our 3rd night on the road in Evora, we set off in the morning for the border castle village of Monsaraz.

I would have to say that the rolling hills of the south-central Alentejo area of Portugal, dotted with cork oak, orange and olive trees amongst wheat fields was probably the most relaxing and visually appealing countryside that we drove through. No work was involved in negotiating turns on narrow mountain roads or changes in elevation. Simply get onto the secondary highways and just cruise leisurely along with your elbow out the window while you smell the countryside! Amazing!
