The Towers of Silence are actually two mountains with circular walls on their peaks. This is where the Zoroastrians used to carry their dead, to be eaten by vultures.

This practice has been stopped by the authorities since the Islamic Revolution.

It's quite a steep climb to the top.

Directions: Follow Kashani Street, the main road, south out of the city. They are only a few kilometres out of town. The twin peaks are easy to see from the main road. A taxi will take you there from the city centre.
