Finnegan's Wake: "It can get packed..." Philadelphia Nightlife Tip by DrexelDragon

Philadelphia Nightlife: 117 reviews and 116 photos

Finnegan's Wake draws mostly a college crowd especially during the fall and winter months. But, it's not just the college crowd, so 30+ have no fear, but honestly, 40+ is going to probably feel a little out of the element. It's fun going here, but lots of times it gets absolutely mobbed and it makes going from one place to another difficult. There is very often live music playing which brings people in.

There are three floors. The main floor has the main band stage and two bars. The top floor is more of a chill out/take a break spot that used to operate a bar, but not sure if it does any more or not. Then there is the basement where they have a small stage set up where most of the Irish acts play. There is also a bar down here.

TIps for going here - BRING YOUR ID even if you're well over 21. They card everyone. Also, if there's a line out the front door, take a quick check around the back side to see if there is a door cracked. If there is, look in, if you see a stairwell and no one there, then you're in luck. If there's someone there, they'll check your ID and collect your cover charge, but at least you didn't have to wait in line. Cover is 5 bucks.

Dress Code: Jeans, tshirt and sneakers are okay, but most will probably dress up a bit more than that. Don't get overly dressed though. This is a college bar, and not a flashy nite club.

Address: Spring Garden St.
Directions: The edge of the Northern Liberties section of town.
Theme: Live Music
