The Forbidden City borders the Northern end of Tiananmen Square. You can spot the entrance in to it by the enormous painting of Chairman Mao (Mao Zedong) that hangs just above it.

The Chinese seem to love having their picture taken in front of this picture, and there seem to be a constant stream of them having this done. You even see soldiers posing in front of Chairman Mao.

This was pretty much the first thing I saw in Beijing as I did little more than throw my bags into my hotel room and catch as taxi to Tiananmen Square. I immediately encountered two Warnings for Beijing before I had evem got into the Forbidden City. See my Warnings section for these...
