"The club - Fiorentina" Sport Tip by Calcio

Fiorentina are back where they belong, in the Serie A. Some might say it wasn?t totally fair, but still they?re in the first Italian league this season.
The club was born in 1929 and won their first league-title 1955/56. 13 years later their second, and last, came. 2000/01 they won their last title, when they beat Parma in the final of the Italian cup.
But that was the end of the first Viola-era, as the president Vittoria Cecchi Gori, the famous film-producer, the next season went to jail for economical crimes, while Fiorentina first went down to Serie B, and later on that summer to Serie C2 (4th division) due to bankruptcy.
A new president, the industry-magnat Diego Della Valle, rebuilt the club, under the name ?Florentia Viola? who the first season won the C2. Due to economical problems for Cosenza, and legal battle between the Liga and other teams (among them Catania) there was during the summer 2003 an extra spot empty in the Serie B. That should probably have gone to Pisa, who was the team closest to go up from Serie C the season before, but instead it went to Florentia, who by that time had changed back the name to Fiorentina. According to the Liga (Lega calcio) it was because Fiorentina was such a classic and big club, so they deserved the spot.
Hrm? well? In Italy it?s always good with contacts high up? ;)
2003/04 Fiorentina finished 6th in the Serie B, which gave them a play-off against rivals Perugia. After two games it was clear that Fiorentina was back in the Serie A again, just two seasons after they was humiliated and pushed down in the 4th division!
The biggest hero for the supporters are ex-World Cup-player Angelo Di Livio. In june-july 2002 he played in the World Cup for Italy, but despite big offers from Serie A-clubs he opted to stay with Florentia Viola in the 4th division. Other big players in the club right now is the attacker Christian Riganˇ, who won the title for scoring most goals in both Serie C2 and Serie B. Also the loan from Juventus, Fabrizio Miccoli, is playing for Fiorentina.
