This is the <b>Duke Kahanamoku Statue</b>. The statue can be found at 2400 block of Kalakaua Avenue beside Waikiki Beach. It honor the pure blooded Hawaiian and Olympic swimming champion who made surfing synonymous with the islands. He also served as Ambassador at Large for the State of Hawaii and official Greeter for the City of Honolulu. With bloodlines linked to King Kamehameha I, Duke popularized surfing around the world and is considered one of the greatest surfers of all time. He served 13 consecutive terms as sheriff of Honolulu until he retired in 1961
