Favorite thing: try and coincide your visit with some of the MAJOR Malaysian holidays. Why? So that you can catch some spectacular fireworks and enjoy the festive atmosphere. That would be just perfect! Here's a brief listing of some special events/ holidays celebrated here in Malaysia:

~ Merdeka Parade @ 31 August. A very colorful parade celebrating Malaysia's independence.

~ Thaipusam. A Hindu cultural and religious event and it usually falls between the 15th of January to the 15th of February every year. It is believed that on this auspicious day, the stars, Pusam and Brihaspati, are united as one. Hindus believe that by celebrating Thaipusam, they are cleansed from their bad karma redeemable in many ways. Batu Caves, a Hindu sanctuary located on the outskirts of K.L. plays host to this annual religious event. You need to possess a very brave heart when you're watching these devotees carry the 'Kavadi'.

~ Color of Malaysia. Purely for artsy folks and culture vultures. This is a month-long cultural extravaganza happening in the month of September. I highly recommend that you coincide your visit during this month-long festival.

O.K., enough said. Now you can start planning for your next vacation!
