"Parliament Square" Houses of Parliament - Palace of Westminster Tip by grkboiler

Winston Churchill Statue at Parliament Square
by grkboiler

Across from the Palace of Westminster is Parliament Square. It was placed here in 1840 to provide a view of the new Parliament. There are statues of statesmen and soldiers lining the square. The one in the picture is of Sir Winston Churchill (1874-1965).

Churchill was the Prime Minister during WWII and one of the most important leaders in history. One of his most famous quotes came in his first speech as Prime Minister - "I have nothing to offer but blood, toil, tears, and sweat."
