I've been to Florence a few times now and each time I have been surprised that I soon want to get out of the place. It's only because of the tourists that swarm and queue all over the city... I love the place really but I haven't been motivated to stay longer than a day. You can see all you want in a day if you aren't interested in any of the galleries or museums. BUT if you do want to go to those places, then get up early and be prepared to wait in line for a long time! I walked up to a park on the east side of the river that overlooks the city... It's not far and the views are really good. Also make sure that you go to the leather markets which are just awesome!
