  Snails, Viet Style

Tip Update:Mai Cuisine has been replaced by Song Trang Vietnamese Restaurant. Not sure if they still have this escargot dish. I'll visit the restaurant and let you know about it.

A recent question on the Singapore Forum left me thinking about
ESCARGOT. For those are you who are uninitiated, it's a fancy french word for snails. Yes, snails, hideous-looking little buggers but lip-smackingly succulent when cooked correctly.

Favorite Dish: According to the VTers in the Forum, there are some good French escargot available in Singapore and they gave good recomendations too. So I won't give repeated stuff over here. I'll introduce you to Viet Snails instead, yup, an asian-esque dish inspired by ze french pple.

Unlike their french counterparts, these asian snails aren't sauteed in butter and garlic. Instead, they are minced with pork and fish sauce, wrapped cosily around a bamboo leaf sling and stuffed into shells. To eat, all you need to do is to tug at the bamboo sling gently and the escargot-pork mixture will pop out. It's a smart rustic touch to the dish and the best deal is the price. It comes at S$8/9 per 1/2 dozen snails. Of course, it's double the price compared to HCMC but I'd rather pay a little extra to stem my craving...
