Those strange animals are a fragment of the Mayura Water Palace.

The largest Balinese temple on Lombok is just across the main road from Mayura. It was constructed in 1720, under the orders of Anak Agung Made Karang of Singosari. The complex is made up of three courtyards and hold more than thirty shrines. The temple is the site of one of Lombok's biggest Balinese rituals.
