"Tipping" Washington D.C. Favorite Tip by jlee008

Washington D.C. General: 493 reviews and 682 photos

Favorite thing: Tipping is voluntary. You usually give a tip as a result of the level of service. It is voluntary and not added to your bill.

With restuarants, you may see a gratuity added for larger parties. Usually, the servers are given 15% of your total bill. This is the guideline you should use when tipping yourself. However, if you receive really good service, give 20% instead.

Taxi drivers usually receive 15% of the fare. Doormen and porters are usually tipped $1 per piece of luggage.
