"Forbidden City- The Colours!!" Forbidden City - The Palace Museum Tip by Mez77

The Forbidden City is full of red-walled buildings and pavilions topped by a sea of glazed vermilion tile. Yellow is the most holy colour and only the emporer himslef could use it. For this reason, every other house in China MUST have a grey roof. The Forbidden City was a welcome change for it's colours, if for nothing else.

The palace is open daily from 8:30am to 5pm during summer and from 8:30am to 4:30pm in winter. Regular admission in summer costs ¥60 and ¥40 in winter.

Audio tours are available in several languages (¥40 plus ¥500deposit) The English version is narrated by ex-007 Roger Moore.

Address: North of Tiananmen Square
Directions: The best way to get to the Forbidden City is via Tian'an Men Square. There is a Metro stop nearby (117).
