The Romans started a castle on top of the hill, where now old Cannes is looking over the new world full of glitter and glamour. "Castrum Canois" the Romans named the town that settled around their fortifications and a fishermen's harbour soon was created in the bay. The hill, Mont Chevallier" offered the Romans a good defendable place along their traderoutes (by sea and over land) between Italy and Spain.
