  The Alcazar in Segovia
by easyoar

The best view of the Alcazar (Alcazar is the Spanish word for Castle) is from down below the city (the Alcazar is built high on the crest of a hill), but you also get very good views as you approach it from the little plaza (square) in front of it. It is possible to go inside and climb up the ramparts and get excellent views of the surrounding countryside, and down into the crows and storks nests that tend to be in the trees in the plaza in the Alcazar gardens.

If this castle looks vaguely familiar, it is because it was apparently used as a model for the Disneyland Castle (as seen in California and other places!). It is easy to believe that this castle is quite old, and there has actually been a castle on the site since the Middle Ages. However the original castle was destroyed in 1862 by a fire, and this rather elaborate remake was put up in its place!

Address: End of the Calle de Daoiz
