North of the Rathaus, on Kornhausstrasse, is one of Tubingen's oldest and most impressive buildings: the Kornhaus. This area was home to the town's non-academic community of viniers, and nearby is the Fruchtschranne, a storehouse for the fruit. The building now acts as a museum of local history. Entry is free, and the place is open Tuesday to Friday from 3 to 6pm, and from 11am to 6pm on weekends (closed Monday).
