The tombs-or graves of the Empress Mumtaz Mahal and Emperor Shah Jahan are situated in the centric below the main to.Marble screen of trelliswork surrounds the graves. Both tombs are exquisitely inlaid with semi precious stones.
Tomb of Mumtaz on a platform of 10.5 feet long, 6.5 feet broad and 1.5 feet high.On this cenotaph is writen in black letters.The words are inscribed like this,"The tomb of Arjumard Bano begum called- Mumtaz Mahal, died in the year 1631 A.D.The Hurs of the heaven came down to greet her and the Angels on date of her death said in the Heaven may always be Mumtaz's seat.

About 5 inches apart the western side is the grave of the Emperor Shah Jahan, which was built by his son Aurangzeb.Its platform is 11.5 feet long, 7.5 feet broad and 2 feet high, which is a little higher then that of the Empress.The inscription on it is like this.The Mausoleum of the most Excite Majesty living his abode in paradise, the second lord of constellation, may ever flourish.Here lies Shah Jahan, Emperor called Firdaus Ashyani (a dweller in Paradise) who was born like Jimur when Jupiter and venus were in heaven.He passed away from the world on the night of 28 jan 1666 A.D. Just below these graves, there is a chamber where the graves are situated.
