  Red Square

Of course this is the first place you should see! It?s the most famous and the symbol of Moscow. The square is one of the biggest of the world. It?s 695m long and 130m wide.
When u are there, you find yourself surrounded by exotic and amazing architectures: on the west side the Cremlin in front of which stands the Lenin mausoleum; on the north the Historical Museum, on the east the shopping centre GUM, and south the fairytale-like cathedral of S. Basil.
The Russian name of the square is Krasnaja plo?cad. The term ?krasnaja? means only ?red? in modern Russian, while at the time the name of the square was chosen, the word had also the meaning of ?beautiful?. So the name has got actually nothing to do with the communist red!
