Singapore Off The Beaten Path: 431 reviews and 571 photos

Lim Chu Kang opened up by Lim Tui Chyan has its beginning as a small immigrant settlement made up of at least the Lim and Neo families that worked as farm workers of gambir (Uncaria gambir) and pepper fields taht were designated by the Sultan of Johor ina greement with the Sultan of Singapore in Kampong Glam and the British Straits Settlements Government.

The other clan family could not be traced because the so-called clan name Chu actually refers to the Hokkien word Chu that refers to land property owner though it means town. Kang refers to the Lim Chu kang jetty, the colony of house-on-stilts and ruiver as the inland Lim Chu Kang has muddy mounds and fertile soil.

Some of Lim Chu Kang's pioneer family members were employed later as small padi field workers in neighbouring Tengah. They were a burgeoning Singapore Chinese Hokkien community in this northern part of early modern Singapore.

Lim Chu Kang is located in the northwestern part of Singapore though political divisions of the post-election 2001 results have designated Lim Chu Kang and Sungei Tengah as part of the Southwestern Singapore Community Development Council (CDC) on 12 November 2001.

One Neo descendant Neo Koon Hian still live sin Lim Chu Kang. He is one of the three prioneers of the Lim Chu Kang cluster of villages that includes Ama Keng village distances away from the entrance of the Lim Chu Kang Agrotechnology Park. The Neo family celebrated their millenium gathering on December 20, 2000, numbering 3001 members.
