Another of the big five Oregon's Coast Bridges project of 1936, this bridge crosses the Siuslaw River replacing a former ferry service. This classic bridge consists of a 140-foot central double-leaf bascule drawspan. A bascule is a drawspan that swings upward like the hinges of a box. It can consist of a single leaf or, as in this case, a double leaf. Obelisk towers camouflage the bridge tenders houses. Two grand 154 foot concrete through tied (bowstring) arch spans flank the central bascule. Twenty concrete girder approach spans add to the 1568-foot length.
