This is China's National Day in Beijing on Tiananmen Square. It falls on October 1st, when the Chinese Communist Party took government back in 1949. During this week, the WHOLE of China get 7 days holiday, which means that it is UNBELIEVABLEY crowded wherever you walk! If you think you've been in the middle of a large crowd before....forget it..come to this exact spot on Oct. 1st every year, and you'll be in for a treat! The majority of the people aren't even from Beijing! This you can tell from the clothes the people wear, their faces and of course the variety of dialects you hear as you squezze past them! Oh and of course, the fact that everyone wants to take a photo of you, the foreigner, the white devil, so they can proudly place it on their mantlepiece when they get home declaring to all their friends how they became best friends with this strange looking alien whilst on holiday in Beijing!!! You know what...? I think WE....the strange beings should start charging for these services! I mean, come on, the Chinese people have to pay to have a photo taken in front of the Great Hall of the People on National Day, so why are we, who seem to be more popular sometimes, not charging? Hhhmmm...something to look into maybe!!! I dont mind too much, but sometimes I do feel used and abused!

Anyway, if you want to get into the spirit of things here, definitely come here...you'll love it! I come every year eventhough most of the displays on the square are the same year in year out, just because the atmosphere is so great! Buy a Chinese flag and start taking photos!!!
