For a unique vacation, try an apartment in several locations, primarily in continental Europe. Stays of one, two or more weeks in a furnished flat, with Transatlantic flights included (or not), and with local transportation supplied--a car in rural locations, or public transportation vouchers in cities. Very reasonable rates. In Venice, in 2003, each of our party of three paid $2000 for the round trip flights plus two weeks in the apartment which had three bedrooms and two baths on the second floor of a townhouse within easy walking distance of public transportation (vaporetto). In 2002, a friend and I had a two bedroom second floor flat in a flower-filled village in Alsace. An air conditioned sedan was included for our daily excursions into the Vosges Mountains or along the Rhine Valley.
Unique Qualities: In Venice, the apartment also had a large living room/dining room, a modern kitchen, a spacious foyer, and laundry facilities. A bake shop, a grocer, several restaurants and a gelateria were close by. In Alsace, the apartment had a small living room, a modern kitchen, and a large second floor terrace just off the kitchen.
