"Norris Junction to Mammoth Hot Springs" Mammoth Hot Springs Tip by BLewJay

After completing the lower loop of Yellowstone, we headed off to the upper portion of the park. Along the way to Mammoth Hot Springs, you'll pass the Norris Geyer Basin (which contains the worlds tallest geyser), Porcelain Basin (the park's hottest exposed area), Obsidian Cliff (a national historic landmark) as well as miles and miles of rolling hills and lakes where you may see moose and bison.

About 2 miles south of Mammoth Hot Springs, is the turnoff to the Upper Terrace Drive. It's a one-way loop that passes through a thermal area of travertine terraces which looks like snow covered hills. It's definitely worth your time to take a look. On some of the pullouts, you have the opportunity to look at Fort Yellowstone, the Mammoth Hot Springs region as well as the Blacktail Deer Plateau.
