Buda Castle stands tall on Castle Hill. Hungarian kings once occupied Buda Castle. The castle foundation was built in the 13th century. The palace has been destroyed and rebuilt many times due to the Mongol invasion. The castle comples includes the Budapest History Museum, the Hungarian National Gallery, the Ludwig Museum and the Széchenyi National Library. You can get to the Castle complex by either bus, funicular railway or on foot. We took the funicular there and the bus back.

The most spectacular views are from the east bank of the Danube and Gellért hill, especially in at night when the castle is illuminated in lights. The view is breathtaking.

Address: District I
Directions: On the top of Castle Hill (Varhegy). Funicular from Clark Adam ter (Buda bridgehead of the Chain Bridge), bus #16 from Deak F. ter, bus VAR from Moszkva ter. No cars allowed.
