It is thought that the founder of Ljubljana was Jason and the Argonauts, while fleeing from King Aites after stealing the Golden Fleece. Legend has it that they sailed from the Black Sea up the Danube into Sava then Ljubljana where they encountered a monster which is now the ljubljana dragon which is on the coat of arms. You will also see the little brass statue of him on the Zmajski Mst (Dragon Bridge), built in 1901.

This is another reason why Ljubljana is a must to visit if you like history!
