"Photograph the magnificent ..." Vatican City Things to Do Tip by Krystynn

Photograph the magnificent Ceiling of the Sistine Chapel.

ALL the art work that you see here was PERSONALLY done by Michelangelo himself whilst he laid on his back painting away for TWELVE YEARS!!!! The end result is breathtaking, of course... If you take a closer look, you'd be able to marvel at his creativity and intellect when he brilliantly added shadows in his paintings (see pic below).

The Sistine Chapel is indeed THE piece de resistance. And in my opinion, it's pretty easy to get sidetracked into viewing secondary exhibits. What I would like to suggest is that you should get in line for entry into the Museum by 8AM or at the very latest, 8:15AM to avoid massively long queues. :-((

Once in there, head directly to the Sistine Chapel. At this early hour, you'll just need to share it with just a few people. Oh... I reckon... just a few hundred. :-)) I kid you not!! But if you were to come later in the day, be prepared to mingle with at least a few thousand people. Yes, not kidding again. Don't get too particularly chafe at not being allowed the privilege of an UNHURRIED, private view of the Chapel. Perhaps you'll feel a bit better understanding there are over 4 MILLION people a year who visit this sacred place! Ah, now you know....
