"Packing List" Vatican City Packing List Tip by Krystynn

Vatican City What to Pack: 17 reviews and 10 photos

Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: Let's spend some time now and talk about this all-important question: What's the DRESS CODE like here?

When you visit the basilicas and many of the other churches here in Italy (yes, the Vatican included), DO bear in mind that the following are NOT allowed -

NO bare shoulders.

NO short shorts (yeah, the type that you see Pamela Anderson wearing). :-))

NO bare midriffs a la Madonna Ciccone... Not even if YOU are Madonna herself. :-))

Bermudas and culottes are sometimes grounds for problems in the Vatican Museum and most often in St. Peter's.

Tanktops, skimpy athletic tops and other excessive displays of flesh are problematic at best. Hey, what do you think?? This is a religious place, ya know??

Whatever you may feel comfortable in, you may find yourself uncomfortably bounced if you violate these common sense rules!!!

O.K., the GOOD NEWS here is that it's no longer required of women to cover up their heads and/ or arms.

Have fun!!

Photo Equipment: Remember, if you want to take pictures inside the Museum, you MUST use a fast speed film i.e. like the Kodak 800 or higher film since FLASH PHOTOGRAPHY IS NOT ALLOWED IN HERE.

Miscellaneous:

'The true Traveler is he who goes on foot, and even then, he sits down a lot of the time.' - Colette, Paris From My Window, 1944
