"Heather Mountain Lodge" Top 5 Page for this destination Province of British Columbia Restaurant Tip by madamx

We were feeling slightly peckish after being on the road from Calgary to Vancouver for about 4 hours, and after seeing numerous signs for "grilled wild salmon" and "homemade ice cream" at various km along the highway, we decided to follow these signs to Heather Mountain Lodge. Very clever marketing!

The beautiful timber frame lodge is set in a hillside with a spectacular view of the mountains. Originally a heli-skiing lodge, the management decided to expand and try and capture the hiking and tourist market.

Favorite Dish: We found out we only had time for some home made ice cream, but judging from the quality of the product, I would not hesitate to eat here. The dining room looks out onto their spectacular view of mountains and valley, plus they have a pond built in the back. A feast for the senses as well as the palate.

I had the Cherry Blossom ice cream, which was inspired from the chocolate bar from my childhood -- cherries and chunks of chocolate, blended up into a smooth ice cream base. Perfect on a hot, hot day.

Directions: 40 km west of Golden on the Trans Canada. Follow the food signs, and the turn off is clearly marked.
