"A place to relax..." Margitsziget - Margaret Island Tip by belgianchocolate

Margitsziget - Margaret Island, Budapest: 57 reviews and 123 photos

We decided that we had enough sightseeing
for one day and that we wanted to go swimming
now. The Margitsziget , or Margarethat island
is like a gigantic green ship in the middle
of the Danube.
It is named after the daughter of king Béla IV,.
Margaretha (1242 -1271).

There where already people living here in roman
times and it still is a popular spot to relax.
Maybe the fact that there are no cars here
has got something to do with that.
There is this swimming pool , the largest
open air , with no special charm also...
But it was closed. Pitty.

But still a nice walk. Visit the ruins of the monastery ,
walk along the statues of the poets...
Have a drink near the water tower.

We haden't been on Obuda yet and from the
other side of the bridge it was easy to reach.
Come along... ;-)

Address: 1138 Budapest, Margitsziget
Directions: Bus No. 26 (from Nyugati pu.)
serves the whole island and trams 4 and 6
stop at the entrance bridge
(stop "Margitsziget").
