  A Quaint Street in Obidos
by Bwana_Brown

Obidos was a very nice town to stroll about. Here is just a typical scene, showing the streets paved with hand-cut stone blocks and the typical white-washed buildings. The colourful blue 'azulejos' and yellow decortive paint stripes are found all over this region of Portugal - the Estremadura. I believe that the building shown here, on the edge of the main town square, is the 18th century manor house known as the Solar da Praca de Santa Maria.

The tiled roofs, flower pots by the windows and the beautiful chimneys all make this a very scenic spot! Near the end of our wanderings, we were getting both hungry and thirsty. We stopped at a bar in a building similar to this one, but they seemed a bit busy and we realized that our 2-hour parking meter was about to expire.

We had to cut and run before we could sample any of the delights of Obidos. It actually turned out to be a good thing, because when we did reach Peniche about 30 minutes later, the last boat of the day for 'Ilha da Berlenga' was just about to leave!
