Trinity College was founded by Queen Elizabeth I. in 1592. The most famous students were probably Oliver Goldsmith, Samuel Beckett and Edmund Burke.
The campus contains a unique collection of buildings dating from the 17th to the 20th century, e.g. the library, the museum, the campanile and the dining hall.
The old library houses the Book of Kells, a Gospel book dating from about 800 AD. It is one of the most beautiful medieval manuscripts in the world.
