  Bison in a Pasture
by Bwana_Brown

Although not common, we saw the odd herd of Bison on all of our long drives through Alberta. We saw this particular specimen among a herd near Elk Point, not too far from Cold Lake as we started our drive to Calgary, heading due south on Highway 41.

It was part of a small group of 20 or so animals grazing away in a large fenced pasture beside the highway. There is something about the shape of these animals that has always fascinated me. It is of some consolation to know that the white man did not completely wipe them out during the 1870-80s when the Transcontinenal railroads were being built across the USA.

Address: Elk Point area
