  Joshua Tree
by Myndo

Joshua Tree National Park is famous for its cacti.
There are whole forests here. It must be a wonderful view when they are flowering, but they are impressive even if they aren't.
The name of the Park comes from the "tree" in the picture that is very common here. Actually it is another cactus and it gets up to 12 m high.

Here two forms of deserts come together. Below 3,000 feet, the Colorado Desert is the eastern part of the park and features natural gardens of creosote bush, ocotillo, and cholla cactus. The higher, moister, and slightly cooler Mojave Desert is the special habitat of the Joshua tree (Yucca brevifolia).

Animals in this dry area are: Spiders (Tarantula), Scorpions, Snakes (5 species of rattlesnakes) and roadrunners. Not to forget Cojote when we are at it :-)

Directions: Southern part of California
