Favorite thing: drop by to see the lovely CHATEAU DE CHENOCEAU (the former grand residence of Henry II's wife, Catherine de Medici) here at the LOIRE VALLEY!

Fondest memory: Welcome to the beautiful Chateau de Chenoceau, a Renaissance-inspired landmark whose most famous occupant must surely be the regal Catherine de Medici, wife of Henry II of France.

Of course, the Chenoceau's other famous occupant is none other than Henry II's mistress, Diane de Poitiers but that is another story altogether.

Each of these women responsible for the building of Chenoceau did leave their mark behind:

Diane de Poitiers was the genious behind the idea of adding an arched bridge over the River Cher... She also added the formal gardens to enhance the landscape of Chenoceau.

And, Catherine de Medici transformed the bridge into an Italian-style gallery (after kicking Diane out of the chateau after King Henry II's untimely death).... Ah, hell indeed hath no fury than a woman scorned.
