Hardknott Pass is for me the most dramatic road I have travelled on in the Lake District and has some of the best scenery I have seen through out the areas of the world I have visited. You can access this road from the A593 just south of Skelwith Bridge. You follow Hardknott Pass west towards Ravenglass and A595. The route is very isolated and will take a good hour to drive if observing the scenery. There are places to pull in and have a good look round for photos etc etc.
I wouldnt fancy travelling on this road if the conditions are quite bad ie snow or ice.

Directions: From Conniston heading towards west coast.
