All over Bali you will encounter similar shops selling in roughly the following categories: beach/leisure clothing; art; DVD/music; souvenir handcrafts. Of course their are other types of shops including label botiques, chemists, mini-marts, and mixed places that can change your money, sell you a pair of fake brand sunglasses, and book you on a trip to somewhere!

What to buy: Beachware is a good buy here if you barter. You can also get serious on the art front and find something very special to take home.

What to pay: The key is bartering. Take the starting price, halve it and start a little bit below half-way. In 2004 I found that the bartering went in favour of the shopper! Be polite and only barter if you intend to buy.
