Sweeney Todds is probably the must-visit restaurant in the whole of Reading. It is unique. The restaurant itself is cheap and cheerful, but the pies they do are excellent. You will never have heard of or even dreamt of most of the flavours (Steak and Oyster, Duck and Apricot, Hare and Cherry are just a few of the examples).
The British are not renowned for their cuisine, but this is about as close as you can get to British food, and it really is very good. I have actually taken a Japanese businessman there and he thoroughly enjoyed it (although expectation were set before visiting!).
I have been to this restaurant many times over a 15 year period and the service is consistent and the food always good. This shop is renowned in Reading, and I have even known people make special visits to come here from London!
They also do pies to take away.
Favorite Dish: You have to have a pie. As to what flavour depends on what they have on the day and what you actually fancy. My favourites are Steak and Oyster, Yorkham and Stilton and Duck and Apricot.
