This immense park is gorgeous and stunning. Canyons and canyons and canyons (including those of the Colorado and Green rivers), mesas (flat plateau), and beautiful desert as far as the eye can see.
It is divided in 3 parts:
Island in the sky: probably the most visited, the paved road meanders on a mesa with spectacular views over the cliffs on its sides. The Grand View Point trail (photo) is an easy 2 miles round trip with breathtaking panoramic views. Access: From Moab, take 191 North, turn left on 313.
The Needles: to the South of Island in the Sky, it has wonderful views on the mesas from below and tremendous hikes near and in canyons. The "slick rock trail" was very easy and offers all you can dream of in terms of views. The hike to Upheaval Dome overlook is short and easy and shows you a crater shaped geological feature (geologists are not sure how it formed). Access: From Moab, take 191 South, turn right on 211 (from Moab, at least 1 hour of driving!).
The Maze: the most remote and wild part of the park, accessed only from 4 wheel drive road. I have not been there. Access: From I70, South on road 24, turn left after 24 miles.
