Centotre: "Chilled Italian Oasis on George Street" Centotre - Renamed Contini Tip by wrongbus

Edinburgh?s hottest trendiest Italian (at the moment, 2004) shares DNA with the city?s always-packed and very famous Valvona & Crolla deli. It may also share deliveries from Milan, because here are more of those same brilliant cheeses, hams and rustic breads so crunchy you need all your teeth to eat them. Inside the setting is George Street glorious - an old Victorian bank building with fine cornicing - but eyes tend to swivel to the pizza chef, stage centre, who gives great crust. The pasta route is worth taking with a plate of orechiette mingled with an intense porcini cream sauce, coins of spicy sausage and wild mushrooms. Mostly though, the main courses rely on nifty grill work, producing juicy rib-eye steaks and mouth-watering lamb cutlets. To finish there?s proper gelato to drool for.
