The Red Tower (Kyzyl Kule in Turkish) is so called of the reddish bricks used when built. It is the town's main attraction and landmark, with a going back history until 1221. The name of Selcuklu Sultan Alaaddin Keykubat got involved with the Red Tower, who took the city, married the daughter of the big boss, and planned the idea of the Red Tower for defend of town's shipyard.

The 8-dided tower got finished in 1226, is 33m high with 5 floors. Good to know that the lowest floor often houses exhibtions of historical matters (from the Selcuk and Ottoman periods). See the characteristic embrasures you can see on all sides of the tower. Imagine how soldiers poured out boiling water, or other unpleasant substances through the small openings hitting the attackers who got too close ...
