In this area, you?ll find the Universities of Paris, the reknown Sorbonne was founded in the 13th century and has been the center of a academic community on the Left Bank of the Seine ever since. The Parisian neighborhood around the Sorbonne is known as the Latin Quarter, named after the former official language of learning. It's a great place to just wander, there are lots of cafes, takeouts and good restaurants. You'll also find the beautiful Jardin du Luxembourg in this area. To get there you can walk across the the Pont Au Double (bridge) from Notre Dame and this puts you on the Left Bank.
