This Statue of William Wordsworth, the celebrated English poet, in CockermouthThis memorial is opposite Wordsworth House and was unvelied on 7th April 1970 - the bicentenery of his birth.

William Wordsworth the English poet(1770 - 1850) was born in Cockermouth. He went to St. John's College Cambridge. He settled in Grassmere with his sister Dorothy (1771 - 1855) to whose insight his poems owe much.
