Gray's Papaya: "Best franks in town" Gray's Papaya Tip by kenadams

  The Papaya stand

The Papaya stand is a real gem. It opened in 1972 and has served arguably the best hot dogs in town ever since. It is also very cheap: you can get two frankfurters for a dollar.
If hot dogs weren't so unhealthy, Gray's Papaya would probably land landmark status in the Upper West Side. In 1998, Nora Ephron (an upperwestsider herself) paid tribute to Gray's Papaya in a scene of You've got mail, starring Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks.
There are other Papaya stands in the city, but this is the first one.
