Finland Things to Do: 359 reviews and 405 photos

In Jarvenpaa, the home of Jean Sibelius(1865-1957)'Ainola', now a Finnish National Museum, can be visited. It is here where he composed most of his compositions after 1904 in a small studio separate from the main residence. He and his wife are buried on the premises. [When I visited in l963, Mrs. Sibelius was still in residence and we were asked to respect her privacy. We toured the grounds, the music studio and Jean Sibelius' gravesite (covered by a large slab of black marble.] During the summer there is an annual Sibelius Music Festival in Helsinki. There are thousands of lakes and beautiful pine forests with dense lush undergrowth. The towns of Tampere and Turku were memorable places to visit. Although the Lutheran Church is the Finnish National Church, there are many Russian speaking people who are of the Russian Orthodox Faith. There are many beautiful churches of each type to visit. A good way to get around is by bicycle.
