The historically important machinery inside dates back to the 19th century. The milling equipment was made during the 1850?s and was originally in a small mill which had been in continuous use for over 70 years by the Smith Family in Moline, Texas. As things slowed down around 1930, meal was only ground for family or special friends. In 1970, the City of Fort Worth purchased and installed the equipment in the Shaw Home where you can see it still today grinding fresh warm cornmeal which is still crushed by the original millstones in the same way. A volunteer is there to go through all the procedures with you and demonstrate how it all works. There are various farm implements also on the walls.
