  Approaching Horseshoe Bay
by aqazi

If you want to travel to or from Vancouver Island or up the sunshine coast then you have to rely on BC'c very own ferry company. The company has an aging fleet of vessels that crisscross the straits between 6am and 10pm with the major routes being between Tawassen and Swartz bay connecting VanC and Victoria and the corssing of Horseshoe Bay and Departure Bay or Tawassen and Duke Point connecting Nanaimo to Vancouver. There are many other routes including a Comox to Powell River crossing. Food on board is rubbish and even though this is a heavily subsidised service prices are not cheap. figure on around $10 per person each way + $35 per car each way. You can make a reservation which costs an extra $15 per car only each way.

Buses connect Tawassen and Horsehoe bay to VanC and you should allow around one hour for the journey. The journey between the mainland and Vancouver Island is 1hr 35 on the horseshoe bay route and a bit longer on the Tawassen route.
