The site started out as a temple to Jupiter, became a Christian basilica, and finally a church. This is where the Crusaders would pray before heading off to the battlefields. This was a focal point during the French Revolution. Napoleon crowned himself Emporer here.

The construction of the church is beautiful. Climb all 387 steps to the top of one of the towers to get a great view of the Seine River and much of Paris. Even more interesting is to go into the Roman Catacombs just outside of the church.
