The western entrance is known as the small town gate. It was built in the second half of the l3th century, when the Romanesque style was prevailing in Istria. Two gate wings made of hard Istrian oak have been preserved till the present days. The wings do not work on hinges. Instead, each is set on a wooden pole, strengthen by iron rings. Bellow, this pole is turning in a hole drilled in the doorway (left of the picture). On top, it is turning in a stone ring that has been specially carved for that purpose and is sealed in the wall (right part of the picture).
