The pediment is better shown from the campanile. On the first photo, the central nave of the basilica and its two side aisles are clearly visible. The mainland is in the background with the modern part of the city, together with, on the left, the northern shore.

On the second photo, taken from the clock tower, the pediment better shows its painted front wall. The paintings are outside, oriented towards the West. They have no protection at all from sunlight and rain, though, they remain in an amazingly good condition.

If you enlarge the third photo, you will see that the painting represents four saints (disciples ?), two at each end. In the middle, a group of three and a group of four candles (??). I have not found any explanation on this painting. Why 4 saints and who are they and what are actually the 7 "candles" ?
